Emotionally Focused Therapy helps you to become more aware of your emotions so that you can better regulate your emotional states and understand the wealth of information that they provide you with about yourself and your behaviours.
If you are suffering from depression, for example, you may find yourself wishing to avoid lots of situations that you fear might lower your mood. However, you may find that this approach limits your life and does not lessen the pain caused by the underlying emotions you want to avoid. Your EFT therapist will help you to learn how to regulate your emotions and understand them as valuable information to guide your actions so that you become able to experience and utilise your feelings, instead of suppressing or avoiding them.
