3 Years Experience

Life events can affect an individual in many ways. The impact touches many areas of your life. Feelings of fear, low self-esteem and worry can be quite exhausting. Feeling trapped, unsure which way to turn. Entrusting an individual with your intimate emotions can place fear of being judged for experiencing mental health issues. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to read through my profile and be assured that I will endeavour to work with you in the best way possible.

Making those first steps can be quite daunting when seeking support through counselling. Once you take those first steps you embark upon a journey of self-exploration in empowering yourself. Facing new challenges with confidence and strength. Building positive steps towards relationships, work and daily routines. We all must take leap of faith in building healthy boundaries. We will find new approaches to test what works for you.

Through my approach as a Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist, together, we will explore the triggers that have left you feeling dis-empowered. We will talk through your issues. I will actively listen whilst taking the journey with you by your side. The Respect I hold for you is genuine. Non judgement or prejudice. This allows you the space in a confidential environment to explore the many emotions you are experiencing.

Some of the issues that I have experience helping with are depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, childhood abuse, loss of identity, low self esteem and suicidal thoughts.

What to expect through my practice:

After you have made your first contact, I endeavor to reply within 24 hours to confirm that I have received your enquiry. I will then contact you whether by call or email whichever is comfortable for you. Here we can make the first appointment and for you to ask any questions that you are unsure about on what takes place within the therapeutic session.

In the initial part of the first session, if you are comfortable, I would like to go over the contract. This will be to ensure that you are safeguarded and happy with the sessions to commence. The contract covers confidentiality, data protection, privacy policy and complaints procedure. A copy can be email or mailed to you so that you are able to look over it at any time. However, at anytime after the first session if you would like to go over them again, I am happy to do so. The rest of the hour will be guided by you and what you would like to bring. We can then agree on the length and frequency of when the sessions take place.

Each hourly session is guided by you. What I will offer is a safe place that allows you to feel:
* Comfortable
* Unconditional positive regard for your way of being
* Non-judgmental
* Open
* Honest
* Confidential
and in a manner that empowers you to find your own solutions to your issues.

However, if you feel at any time that this is not the right time or that it’s not for you, all I ask is that you are honest, open and let me know.

The ending of the sessions is guided by you. There will be a gradual ending so that you feel empowered and ready to move forward in a space that is right for you.

I offer short or long term sessions, where we can review our work as we go along the journey. I am insured, experienced and I am a registered Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapy with Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA). I work within the COSCA's Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice.

Prior to becoming a Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist I have served in the military for several years. I have lived both in the UK and in Europe, where I appreciated the opportunity of being part of and learning from the various cultural differences that has enriched my life. I have volunteered with various organisations such as Soldier, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, a millennium volunteer with Cornerstone and volunteer counsellor with Women’s Aid. I understand how traumatic events and the stresses within the community for various reasons, can put undue pressure on a person’s mental health.

I hold the following qualifications: BA(Hons) Degree in History and BA(Hons) Degree in Humanities with History and literature. Diploma in Higher Education in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy, COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate, Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health, Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care, Certificate in Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid: for Young People and Adults, Certificate in Equality and Diversity, Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems and a Certificate in Introductory Transactional Analysis 101 Course. I have attend numerous continuous professional development workshops such as Food and Mood the connection, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Introduction to Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Working with Single, Multiple and Complex Trauma during the 1st Stage of Trauma Recovery, The Neuroscience of Relationships, Re-Claiming the Organism, The Neuroscience of Self-Love, Bowlby’s Attachment Theory and Lifelong Relationships, Treating Intrusive Thoughts and the Inner Critical Voice, Under Pressure – Preventing Abuse and Exploitation in Teen Relationship and a Foundation in Suicide Intervention – ‘Suicide First Aid”.
