10 Years Experience

As a therapist I am passionate about supporting people to live a life which is more in line with their values. I enjoy providing clients with a space to acknowledge, explore and reflect on their difficulties in order to make changes and work towards a more positive future. I have a deep understanding of common emotional difficulties that we all encounter during our lifetimes, and I am committed to helping clients develop strategies to manage the way they cope with such situations. In our sessions together I aim to provide a non-judgemental space for you to feel fully listened to. My clients often feed back that they feel supported, heard and understood, and that this process is one of the most helpful aspects of therapy.

My training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) enables me to work with people experiencing common emotional difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, anger, panic or adjustment to living with long term health conditions. CBT offers a helpful framework in which to understand patterns of problematic thinking or behaviour, which can over time present in the form of the difficulties mentioned above. This practical, focused style of therapy is well placed to support people in learning to manage stress at work, anxiety about health or low mood related to a significant life event, to give just a few examples. I also draw on mindfulness techniques and acceptance and commitment principles, which can be helpful for coping with difficult emotions in the moment and connecting with why we experience them. I am available for therapy via telephone or Skype, which is often a more convenient format for people with the limitations of busy schedules or difficulty with travelling. I am experienced in supporting people with long term health problems, depression, anxiety, anger, insomnia and panic and helping them find effective ways to manage these.

I began my training in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 2006, completing a BSc and MSc in Psychology at Newcastle University. I then chose to further specialise by completing a cognitive behavioural therapy qualification at University College London. I have worked across a range of NHS and private services, with a range of people from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life.
