“When we stop developing ourselves, we stop being effective at developing others and when we are most alive to our own learning is often when we are of most value to others," says Ann Marie Cunningham.
Ann is a London based psychotherapist, passionate about supporting people's life transitions in a compassionate manner to ignite greater awareness and personal growth. Read more about Ann and her approach as we 'Meet the Therapist.'
What do you enjoy about your work?
I enjoy the dichotomy of facilitating and being witness to the process; the sense of hope and possibility in the midst of struggle and vulnerability.
Why do you think therapy is important?
Therapy is paramount to wellbeing and personal growth; sharing your story, your experiences, your thoughts and feelings with a professional in a confidential and impartial space enables change, facilitates healing and enriches life with greater meaning and awareness.
What is your favourite self help book and why?
Light is the New Black by Rebecca Campbell.  It’s a guidebook about lighting up the world with your presence; your authentic self.
Favourite quote and who is it from?
‘To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.’ Oscar Wilde
What are your own wellbeing habits?
For me, wellbeing is about living a life aligned with my values: I value spending time with family and friends who enrich my life with love and laughter, hearty walks with my dog, Hunter, and practicing the dynamic process of self-compassion.
